Sun, Sand & Skyline: My 9-Day Luxury Adventure in Dubai
Where to Stay: The Ritz-Carlton, Jumeirah Beach
Our home base for the trip was the Ritz-Carlton, Jumeirah Beach—a five-star haven that redefines luxury. Nestled directly on the beach with private access to the pristine shoreline, this resort offers breathtaking views, impeccable service, and a location that’s hard to beat. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect, from personalized greetings to thoughtful touches in our room.
The hotel boasts several world-class restaurants, each offering a unique culinary experience. Whether you’re indulging in fresh seafood, savoring Middle Eastern flavors, or enjoying international cuisine, the dining options are exceptional. The proximity to shops and the Dubai Marina made it easy to explore the city, and most top attractions were just a short Uber ride or train trip away.
Thrilling Tours and Unforgettable Sights
Dubai is a playground for adventure seekers, and we dove right in with a jet skiing tour that offered stunning views of the iconic Atlantis Resort and the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. Skimming across the turquoise waters with these architectural marvels in the background was exhilarating and unforgettable.
One of the highlights of our evenings was the Dubai Marina Dinner Cruise. With live music, an open bar, and panoramic views of the city’s glittering skyline, it was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the ambiance. The cruise offered a unique perspective of Dubai’s modern marvels and was a romantic and relaxing experience.
Our day trip to Abu Dhabi was equally impressive. We visited the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the world. Its white marble domes and intricate carvings were awe-inspiring. We also explored the opulent Emirates Palace Hotel and the President’s Palace, both showcasing the grandeur and elegance of the UAE’s capital.
Back in Dubai, we ascended to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. The views from the observation deck were absolutely breathtaking. For more skyline indulgence, we visited AURA Skypool, a luxurious rooftop oasis offering panoramic views, refreshing drinks, and a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation.

Desert Adventures and Cultural Immersion
No trip to the UAE is complete without a desert safari. We embarked on a thrilling 60-minute ATV quad ride through the golden sand dunes, followed by camel rides and a traditional desert dinner under the stars. The evening included live entertainment, delicious food, and a glimpse into Bedouin culture.
To balance the modern with the traditional, we took a walking tour of Old Dubai. This part of the city offers a rich tapestry of history and culture. We wandered through the Grand Souk-Bur Dubai and the Spice Souk, where the air was filled with the scent of exotic spices and the energy of bustling vendors. A water taxi ride across the creek added a charming touch to the experience, and we sampled several local dishes along the way.

Dining Delights: A Culinary Journey
Dubai’s food scene is as diverse as its population. We dined at VAGA, a restaurant that fuses Armenian and Middle Eastern flavors in a vibrant setting. Luigia offered authentic Italian fare with a warm, family-style atmosphere. Blue Jade impressed us with its Asian fusion dishes, and Tamoka delivered beachfront dining with Caribbean-inspired cuisine. Each meal was a celebration of flavor, creativity, and hospitality.
Pros and Cons of Summer Travel in Dubai
Traveling to Dubai in the summer comes with its own set of advantages and challenges. While some outdoor attractions like Global Village and Miracle Garden were closed due to extreme heat, the upside was fewer crowds. Attractions had minimal wait times, and restaurants were nearly empty, allowing for a more relaxed and personalized experience.
The long flight to Dubai was made comfortable by choosing exit row seats, which provided ample legroom and space to stretch. Transportation within the city was seamless. Uber was incredibly efficient—we never waited more than three minutes for a ride. The train system was also easy to navigate and connected us to the tram that circles Dubai Marina, making it a budget-friendly and convenient option.
Helpful Tips for a Smooth UAE Experience
To make the most of your UAE adventure, here are a few practical tips:
- Bring AED Cash: While most places accept credit cards, having cash is useful for tipping tour guides, valets, porters, and other service staff.
- Use Public Transportation: The train and tram systems are affordable and efficient, offering access to most major attractions.
- Take Advantage of Hotel Transfers: Many tours include hotel pick-up and drop-off, adding convenience to your itinerary.
- Respect Local Customs: While clothing restrictions are more relaxed than many expect, it’s respectful to wear modest attire in public spaces. Swimwear is perfectly acceptable at hotels, pools, and beaches.
- Register with STEP: Enroll in the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program before your trip for added safety and travel updates.
